Day 15: Mid Point

Today is day 15 of FEBO, the middle day of February in the year 2008. If the writing life were a linear, logical progression, you would be half done with your writing goals for February.

But it's not. At least it's not for me. I got side-swiped by a flu bug early in the month, and this feels more like Day 7. Maybe you were derailed by something else, and you're actually on Day 10. Or maybe you're just joining FEBO today, and this is Day 1.

FEBO really isn't about yesterday--with its failures or successes. And it's not about tomorrow--when we fantasize about how organized we're going to get and all that we'll do some day.

FEBO is about TODAY. About setting writing goals and working on them today. Today is a fresh start, a clean page.

To paraphrase Aragorn's battle speech in The Lord of the Rings: "The day may come when the hearts of men will fail. . .but it is not this day. This day we write!"

So, welcome, one and all, to Day 1.

Oh no...we're half way through? Seriously?

Right. And I've sent exactly ONE thing out. :-)

I'm with LM, having sent out only ONE thing this month. On the other hand, since this is Day 1, then I guess I'm ahead of the game!

Thanks for the stirring words - I could picture myself in the throng of writers geared up for battle with their mighty pens in hand, and hearing your words of exhortation ring out. We will write!

Llama Momma and A Musing Mom: I am totally impressed that you both sent something out this month! Congratulations. Why not shoot for getting something else out by the end of the month? I haven't been in sending-stuff-out mode for a while, but you guys are inspiring me. . . . .

Hey, sending one thing out is a big deal! I remember a couple of years ago, I got one article sent out all YEAR but it sold! That inspired me to go on.

You all inspired me to fix up a craft idea and send out two queries today. That's the hardest thing of all.
